Yes, our venue provides cloth napkins for the dinner but we really want something for our cocktail hour and cake other than the little black beverage napkins. So, we bought 700 personalized napkins. They have our names on them and a monogram of my soon to be last name along with the date!! We got ours in chocolate brown with gold foil writing!!!
The rule of thumb is to have 3-4 napkins per person for appetizers/cocktail hour. Well, we are only planning on having 150-200 people so we will definitely be set!
Our plan is to set aside 250 for the cake table so that they can be displayed nicely and guaranteed to make it for the cake and then we are putting the rest out for appetizers. What is not used during appetizers will then go to the open bar for the rest of the night. If we run out because people are getting a lot of drinks then we will switch to plain brown napkins but after each person has had several personalized napkins I don’t think it will be as big of a deal.
There are a TON of places online to get personalized napkins, but we went to TheKnot.com. To make it a little more simple, we got 700 of the same size, the beverage napkins. The napkins are a little larger than most beverage napkins at 5″ x 5″. This will make it easy for us to switch them out and use them for whatever we need to. If we had gotten the beverage napkins for appetizers and drinks and the luncheon napkins for the cake we would have ended up buying at least 100 more so that we could be safe with our numbers. It’s a little thing, but from what I’m finding…it’s the little things that add up. Therefore if we can save an extra $34 on napkins by getting all one size then I’m game! (I would much rather have an extra $34 towards my dress! )
