Wedding Slideshow

We had a wedding slideshow made to show our guests during Cocktail Hour.

The slideshow was made by Storymix and consisted of 50 pictures of our relationship over the past 5 1/2 years.

The plan was to show this during cocktail hour so that our guests could be entertained.  This would be along with the appetizers, the photo booth, DJ, and finding their seats.  Plenty to keep them all entertained for an hour before we got there.

I was so happy at the way that the slideshow all turned out.  We didn’t request any specific song and the song that Storymix put to it was perfect!  I had never even heard the song before and now I love it!  All I had to do was download the video and give the venue my laptop and it would be on!  Well….I forgot to download (my parents don’t have wireless) and I forgot to pass on my laptop.  So, the video wasn’t shown at Cocktail Hour.

This was just one of the many things that happened on the day of the wedding that I had to just roll with.  I realized it when we were back in the hotel freshening up and I saw the bag with the laptop in our room (which I had been lugging around with me all day) and the cocktail hour was scheduled to begin in 5 minutes.  I called our wedding planner at Circle the Date and told her to have the media system that we rented from the venue with the projector screen and all to be pulled up so that no one would even know the difference.

Of course, being the great wedding planners they were, they were able to pull that off flawlessly and no one knew (except for I had told one of my aunts the night before about it and she passed it on to everyone at her table.)    As much as I had planned out every detail of the wedding, I was very proud of myself for letting things just slide by on the day of.  My thought was it’s too late now.  I’m not going to let anything bother me because in the end, this day is all about marrying my best friend!

Wedding Cake

I am so excited to tell y’all about our wedding cakes!!

Lady’s first.  So, let’s start with the Bride’s Cake.

My cake was a vanilla cake with lime filling with buttercream icing.  It was like summer in your mouth!  So light and refreshing…it was amazing!  Our baker, Lizzy with Lizzy Cake Company was absolutely PHENOMENAL!   When we had originally discussed cakes we had talked about 4 tiers because we wanted to save the top tier.  But, when our numbers dropped, we just couldn’t justify spending the money on just the top tier and fully planned on saving just a slice for us to eat on our 1 year anniversary.  We had dropped the contract down to 3 tiers before the final payment was due.  Not because we liked 3 tiers more (we liked the 4 tiers more), but because it didn’t make sense economically.   We get to the reception and there were 4 tiers!!  I was very surprised and LOVED the way it looked.  I get an e-mail that explains that she went ahead with our original design because she “thought it looked better”.  That’s right!  She takes such pride in her work that she wasn’t going to let me just settle with something, she wanted to make me happy.  I was floored!!

Onto the boys…the Groom’s Cake.

The cake was chocolate with raspberry filling.  It was such a delicious, rich chocolate and the raspberry was the perfect touch.  And, it being a South Texas Wedding, we had a Texas Longhorn theme for it.  Hook ‘Em!  Being Texas Exes, we’ve been to some weddings where the Texas Longhorn just doesn’t look like the Texas Longhorn.  Not our wedding!   She made the top longhorn out of brownie which she told us she had experimented with cake, but it started to sink a little so brownie it was.  I looked so good and lasted the whole night, standing proud!  We even ended up freezing that part to also eat on our 1 year anniversary.

What did the guests say?

The talk about the cake was nonstop!  We are still getting e-mails, phone calls, and texts about our cake!  It’s been non-stop compliments!  People have told us time and time again that they loved it.  Many people told us that they are usually not impressed with wedding cakes, but ours was really good!

Photo Booth at our Wedding

A huge hit at the wedding was our Photo Booth!

I actually got the photo booth through a Groupon promotion almost a year ago.  This was one of the first purchases we made towards the wedding because I knew that I wanted our guests to be entertained.  In the last year, it has been a rapidly growing trend, but many of our guests it was the first wedding they had been to with it.

Our photo booth had the option of black and white or colored pictures and you could use the crazy props or not.  People of all ages were in and out of the photo booth that we had there for cocktail hour and a little after.

Here are some of us, the newlywed couple!

Things I would advise if you are looking into a photo booth:

  1. Will they give you a cd with images after the wedding?
  2. Will they let you keep a strip of photos for your own scrapbook?
  3. Is there a limit to how many pictures can be taken?
  4. How much does it cost to go over the time limit?
  5. Are the pictures copyright release?

Originally, I thought 4 hours was a little too long, but it ended up being perfect for our event!  Whether you do a photo booth or not, is up to you, but it is always nice to have a little something unexpected to surprise and entertain your guests with!

“I Do” BBQ

We’re married!!!

Yes, I’m a Mrs.!!  Super excited!

After months of planning, our wedding weekend had come and gone and now we get to sit back and look through some pictures and enjoy the memories of this wonderful weekend.

The weekend started off with our “I Do” BBQ!

Our wedding planners, Vera and Jinelle from Circle the Date, were invaluable for this event.  There were SO many things that went wrong on the part of the venue, Rudy’s BBQ, but with the help of Circle the Date, we were able to pull it off.

I had this vision in my mind and after a couple of test runs, we put everything in a box and sent it off to the planners.

While we were busy at the rehearsal, they were working their magic at the rehearsal venue setting up our dinner.  I am SO thrilled to have had their help and seriously don’t think this weekend would have worked out the way I wanted it to without them.

Of course, I forgot to take pictures, but our wedding planner literally thought of everything and sent us pictures today of the “before”!  Check them out!!

And…what do you have for dessert for a BBQ?

Some may think…apple pie, peach cobbler, pecan pie…but isn’t that what you expect?

So, what did we do?  We had a S’more Bar!!!

HUGE HIT!  Everyone loved getting to get up and make their own s’mores!  It really helped bring the two families together and get people talking to one another instead of just sitting with their own family at their own tables.

So happy about how the rehearsal dinner decor worked out!!  A million thanks to my mom and our wedding planners at Circle The Date!

My Bacheloretty Party Dress!

I am a pretty conservative dresser (don’t like anything too short or revealing), but I think I did a good job with this one!  It’s just short enough to get the approval of my Bridesmaids, but still covers me completely.

All of the girls attending the bachelorette party will be wearing black dresses so I was told to wear something that will stand out from the crowd.  I found it!
